Objectives

The objectives of the Jakes Gerwel Foundation are to celebrate the legacy of the late Professor Jakes Gerwel through a variety of programmes that are aimed at the development of the talents of emerging writers. We further strive for seamlessness and equality in a thinking, unified South African community that addresses and bridges socio-economic questions together.

Die Jakes Gerwel Foundation focuses on the promotion and expansion of the South African literary milieu with the following broad focus areas in mind:

To enrich and build out the body of South African literature
To help new perspectives and worlds of experience to be heard
To support upcoming writers and new voices
To encourage an appreciation of the literary arts from a young age under South Africans.
