Rattle has always loved chapbooks for their brevity and intensity. At a few dozen pages, a great chapbook is the perfect reading experience for the 21st century—not too long, not too short: They’re the Goldilocks zone of the poetry world. So Rattle decided that they wanted to do the same for chapbooks what they’ve done for poems with the Rattle Poetry Prize—provide a fair, fun, and friendly way to make the most of what they offer.
Three winners will receive:
Open to writers, worldwide; poems must be written primarily in English (no translations, except by the author). Individual poems may be previously published in any format, but the manuscript as a whole must be unpublished as a collection. Do not include any poems that have been published in Rattle. Manuscripts may include images or other artwork. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but Rattle must be notified immediately. Manuscripts may be 15 to 30 pages of poems (not including front- or back-matter), with any reasonable fonts or font sizes (12 pt., etc.).
Submission fee: $25 (the submission fee is a one-year subscription to Rattle). Multiple entries by a single poet are accepted, however each manuscript must be treated as a separate entry, each with an additional $25 fee. Each additional entry will add an extra year to your subscription.
Submission Deadline: 15 January 2025 (11:59 p.m. EST)
