Jacana Media: call for submissions

Jacana Media is calling for submissions.  If you’re a writer who is looking for a publisher, this is a rare chance to have your work read and considered by one of the country’s best.

This year, submissions are open from 5 September to 30 November. Whether it’s an idea for the next great South African novel, the children’s book every child needs to have, a must-hear memoir or burgeoning political analysis, Jacana wants to read it.

This year Jacana will consider submissions in the following genres:

• Lifestyle
• Children’s
• Fiction
• Politics/current affairs/history
• Memoir/biography/autobiography
• Natural history/travel
• Cookery/baking
• Business
• Self-help

For the first time, submissions are open for Jacana’s new imprint dedicated to science-fiction, fantasy and horror: Mother. Mother launched in August 2023 with Langabi: Season of Beasts and is the first South African imprint dedicated to the sci-fi, fantasy and horror genres.

Please note that Jacana will only be giving feedback on submissions of interest. If you have not heard from Jacana by 14 February 2024, please consider your submission unsuccessful.
